TripTotem helps drivers in the UK and US work out what a journey will really cost in fuel, and find ways to pay less. Our articles are written and edited by The TripTotem team.

Where our numbers come from

• UK fuel prices: the government's Fuel Finder scheme, which all UK forecourts are legally required to report to. We refresh it every 30 minutes.
• US fuel prices: the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly retail gasoline and diesel survey.
• Distances and driving times: OpenStreetMap road data.
• EV charging locations: Open Charge Map and its contributors, refreshed weekly. Records with non-commercial licences are left out.

How we write articles

Our guides focus on practical, tested ways to spend less on fuel. News articles are based on reporting from established publishers, which we link to in each article's sources. We sometimes use AI tools to help draft articles; every article is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a person before it's published.

How we make money

The site is free to use. We show ads, and some pages include clearly labelled affiliate links, which may earn us a commission if you buy something. Partners never influence our calculators or what we write.
