Privacy and cookies

This policy explains what information TripTotem ("we") collects when you use triptotem.com, and your choices. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect

  • Places you enter in the calculator. We send them to OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim, OSRM or OpenRouteService) and postcodes.io to find the places and the route. We keep a cache of place lookups and an anonymous count of popular routes. We don't link them to you.
  • Your location, only if you tap "Near me". Your browser asks your permission first. We use it once to find nearby prices and don't store it.
  • Settings stored on your device. We save your country, fuel type, mpg and price in your browser's local storage so they're there next time. They never leave your device.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, our server briefly logs IP addresses and requests for security and to fix problems.
  • Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap's servers, which receive your IP address.
  • "Near me" in the charger finder. Your browser asks first. We round your location to about 100 metres, use it once to find nearby chargers and don't store it.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services, and turn off personalised advertising in Google's My Ad Center. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.

If you're in the UK, EEA or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised ads or cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time with the Privacy settings link at the bottom of every page.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland it only sets cookies if you consent.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law, and laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, you can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to delete it, and object to its use. Email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK.

Price alerts and newsletter

If you sign up for price alerts or our weekly email, we store your email address, the area and fuel you chose, and when you confirmed. We only email you after you confirm, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, which deletes your details. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days. We send email through our email provider and never sell or share your address.

Vehicle lookups

If you enter a registration number, we send it to the DVLA and DVSA to look up the vehicle and cache the result for a day. We don't link it to you.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
